The use of a bible concordance can be very rich and informative. A bible concordance lists all the occurrences of a word in an English Bible. For example, if you were to look up the word Salvation in a Bible concordance, you would find all the places in the Bible where the word salvation occurs. If it is an exhaustive concordance, it will include the Old Testament listings as well as the New Testament.

Each Version Has It's Own Concordance

Bible concordances are based on English translations of the Scriptures. For example, a King James Bible concordance is based on the King James translation, a New International Bible concordance is based on the New International translation of the Bible, a New American Standard concordance is based on the New American Standard translation and so on. You would want to purchase a Bible concordance that matches the translation of the Bible you are using. If you are using a King James Bible, you would want to use a King James concordance etc.

How To Use An English Bible Concordance For Yourself

  1. To Study Certain Subjects.
  2. To Find Certain Verses.

To Study Certain Subjects

Say you would like to learn more about what the Scriptures say about the Holy Spirit, or any topic that interests you. All you would do is look up the word Holy Spirit in your English concordance and all the places in your Bible where the words, "Holy Spirit" occur would be listed. You then can read through the various listings to find a verse that interest you. Then look up the reference in your English Bible, and see what you can learn about your topic. It's that simple!

To Find Certain Verses In Your Bible

Say you forgot where a certain verse was located...,but...you remember a few words from the verse. You simply look up the word or words you do remember and look down the list until you find the verse you were looking for. Then look it up in your Bible. I have used my concordance many times to find verses in the Bible. You can too!

Conclusion

So, I hope you see the value of using a Bible concordance. It can be used to gain a deeper understanding of Biblical topics: which I am sure you are interested in. Use it wisely.
